Abstract:The reconstruction plan of the small-spacing interchange connection sections on freeway directly affects the operational efficiency and driving safety in the operational stage. Taking the important node of the Zhongjiang Freeway renovation and expansion project - Xinlong -Kongkou Interchange as an example, this paper explored the renovation plan of the connecting section under the condition that the interchange spacing did not meet the regulatory requirements. A study was conducted on two connection schemes, auxiliary lane and distribution lane, and a comparative analysis was conducted on the two schemes from four aspects: long-term service level, speed coordination, operational efficiency, and engineering scale. On this basis, the auxiliary lane connection scheme was recommended. This article can provide reference and inspiration for the determination of renovation plans for small-spacing interchanges on similar highways.
