Abstract:Based on the assumption of equating wire corrosion pits to notches, fatigue tests were carried out on wire samples with different prefabricated depth notches at different stress ratios, and an empirical equation for fatigue life was established, which considering the stress ratio effect. The results show that the fatigue life of the wire samples is significantly influenced by the stress ratio, which decreases with increasing stress ratio significantly. The increase of both prefabricated notch depth and stress ratio will lead to the decrease of fatigue strength of the wire samples. The fatigue life of the wire samples was predicted by The fracture mechanics model, which considers the stress ratio effect, and the predicted values are within the ±2.0 times error band. The fracture mechanics model has certain applicability for the fatigue life prediction of notched wires at different stress ratios.
